Learn how to install the ROAM 105L Rigid Mounts on your Rugged Case for secure rack mounting. Step-by-step guide with common mistakes.
Quick answer
Install the 105L Rigid Mounts by sliding them into the tie-down channels of your 105L Rugged Case and bolting them to your roof rack or flat surface. No hardware is included, so you'll need your own bolts.
Why use rigid mounts instead of straps
Rigid mounts provide a permanent, secure attachment point for your 105L Rugged Case, making them ideal for overlanding where vibration and weather can loosen straps. The .188 black powder-coated steel construction resists corrosion and holds up to heavy loads.
What you need before starting
The 105L Rigid Mounts are designed to shoehorn into the tie-down channels of the 105L Rugged Case. You'll need a drill with a 1/4" bit (if your rack doesn't have pre-drilled holes), bolts that fit 1/4" holes, and a wrench or socket set. Mounting hardware is not included.
Installation steps
- Position the mount in the tie-down channel: Slide the 105L Rigid Mount into the tie-down channel on the bottom of your 105L Rugged Case. The mount is designed to shoehorn in, so apply gentle pressure until it snaps into place. Make sure the mount is fully seated in the channel—if it wobbles, it's not in all the way.
- Mark the bolt holes on your rack: Place the case with the mount on your roof rack or flat surface. Use a marker to indicate where the 1/4" holes on the mount align with your rack. Remove the case and drill 1/4" holes if needed. Double-check alignment before drilling—off-center holes can make the mount unusable.
- Bolt the mount to the surface: Secure the mount to your rack using bolts that fit 1/4" holes (hardware not included). Tighten with a wrench or socket set. Repeat for each mount location. Use lock washers or thread-locker to prevent bolts from vibrating loose on rough terrain.
- Attach the case and test security: Place the 105L Rugged Case back onto the mounted mounts. The case should sit flush without rocking. Give it a firm shake to confirm it's secure. If the case shifts, check that the mount is fully seated in the channel and bolts are tight.
Product facts
- 105L Rigid Mounts: The 105L Rigid Mount is a hard-mounted system designed to mount a 105L Rugged Case to a roof rack or any surface with mounting capability. It has 1/4" holes to bolt down and is made of .188 black powder-coated steel. This gives you a vibration-resistant, permanent mount that won't shift during off-road travel, unlike straps that can loosen over time.
